A Bangladeshi youth named Raju Islam (29) was killed in BSF firing at Harivasa Jhulipara border in Panchagarh. 

On Sunday (June 15) afternoon, the police sent the body of the deceased to the morgue of Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.

Earlier, the incident took place at around 4 pm on Saturday at the Jhulipara border of Harivasa Union in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila under the jurisdiction of Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion.

Local residents said that on Saturday night, Raju went to bring cows with some people through the Jhulipara border of Harivasa union in Sadar upazila. At that time, the BSF chased them. Later, while they were fleeing, the BSF fired shots and Raju was hit in both knees. Later, Raju\\'s associates rescued him injured and left him outside the house and fled. At that time, Raju\\'s family members came out after hearing his screams. They took Raju to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance, where he died.

Union Parishad (UP) member Hasibul Islam said, "Local residents called me around 6 am and told me that Raju had died in BSF firing while trying to bring cows to India. He died near Debiganj while being taken to Rangpur around 4 pm. Later, they brought him home. He has a son, two daughters and a pregnant wife."

Harivasa Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Syed Nur-e-Alam said, "Raju\\'s parents told me that Raju was at home until midnight. The family members cannot say anything about when he left. They also cannot say anything about who left him injured."

Panchagarh Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Shaimi Imtiaz said, "We found clear bullet marks on both legs of Raju. The body has been sent for autopsy. We will file a case in this regard after consulting senior officials."

Lt. Col. Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoza, commander of Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion, said, "We spoke to the locals, none of them heard any gunshots. Our patrol team was there, they also did not hear any gunshots. We spoke to the BSF, they also did not report any gunshots."
